Shortly after earning her B.A degree in Biology from Florida Gulf Coast University, Rashel joined the Gerwick lab in 2002.
Currently, her thesis focus is on the genetic isolation and biochemical characterization of biosynthetic gene clusters from
filamentous marine cyanobacteria. Her goals are to elaborate on the mechanistic organic chemistry that such fascinating
enzymes coordinate, discover unique chemical entities through bio-assay guided isolation, and to isolate pure natural
products for downstream therapeutic studies.
